My Story
I always knew that I wanted to help people, even when I was little, I spent many years trying to figure out exactly how and I believe I’m finally where I should be. There were three moments that really stood out the most for me throughout this journey we call life, and in those moments, I felt the push and heard the call the loudest. I’d love to share those moments with you now.
The first, was in 2012 when my daughter, Isabella, started having seizures at just nine months old. No specialist was able to ever tell me why she was having them, I was so scared and felt so helpless. I didn’t know what to do, so I just did what they told me to. I just wanted my precious baby to be healthy, better. Everything they did, all the tests, and medications, lead to no answers and no relief. They had to put her into medically induced comas over and over and filled her with pharmaceuticals (enough for three grown men) to get them to stop. Obviously, this was not a viable solution, but I simply didn’t know what else to do. I felt she was slipping through this crack, and we were all so desperate for answers. Unfortunately, more and more problems came, ear infections, bacterial infections, virus illnesses, multiple surgeries for tubes in her ears, antibiotics, fevers, allergies and so many terrible things, one after the next FOR YEARS! That was the first time I decided it was time to educate myself. I started to dabble in essential oils because a very close friend of mine reached out to me. Which, thank the heavens she did. it started me on a path to a more holistic and eastern approach. It was a tough choice, but I knew I had to make a change. I stopped Isabella’s meds and made a few simple changes in her daily life and her seizures STOPPED! She’s been seizure-free since 2013! I was so amazed and grateful! So I started digging deeper, educating myself more. I began understanding the real risks around us. The hazards in the foods and daily rituals that are made most easily available to us made me start to really look at my own health. I was on a very dangerous path myself. Fearing I would succumb to chronic illness through unhealthy habits and plain not understanding how bad off I was. It really opened my eyes.
The second was when my path crossed with, at the time, my very best friend, Elle. She awoke one day in the fall of 2018 and felt completely different. She got bounced around from specialist to specialist, they did MRIs of her brain and body, Ultrasounds of her organs, took gallons of blood, and finally discovered, Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Psoriatic Arthritis. They put her on just about every drug, she was like a research monkey. First Prednisone (a corticoid steroid) at the highest oral dose for roughly 14 months. Which ravaged her body and immune system. Then, Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine), Methotrexate (chemo-drugs), Monoclonal antibodies and that is where she just had enough. It wore her down and broke her already sick body. She wanted real help not just managing symptoms, she was terrified because they found a lump in her left breast and that is when she got serious about getting better not just managing symptoms. I helped her understand there was another way.
Third, was when my father, David, went to his primary care physician for a routine blood check because he knew something wasn’t right. At first glance, he seemed ok, but we quickly found out, that couldn’t have been farther from the truth. His doctor did some basic blood work and discovered his blood counts were way off and advised him immediately to go to the emergency room, which he did. Upon arrival, they dismissed him, told him nothing was wrong and told him to go home. Luckily my mother, Eve, demanded they do further testing. That they were going nowhere until a cat scan was completed because his primary care physician was certain he had some kind of internal bleeding. It lit up like a Christmas tree. They found Cancer. He was diagnosed that night with stage 4 small cell lung cancer that had spread to his lymph nodes and his liver. This was in November 2019, he succumbed to these illnesses by Summer 2020. They used chemotherapy and radiation to his brain which took a toll on his already fragile body. Though I do agree there is a time and a place for these tactics I do not believe they are the only tools in the box. The team of professionals that cared for my father did the best they could and without their efforts, we may not have had him for as long as we did. From the years of learning and experiences about health coaching that I have, I now understand that it is a holistic, whole-body approach that looks at not only the body but also the mind, the traumas, and the circle of life that makes up an individual to create better habits early in life to create wellness and longevity.
So, these are some of my core reasons, this is my WHY. All of these things helped direct me into focusing on achieving education and completing of my holistic health coach certification. I am blessed to have been given the opportunity to Coach multiple clients through their journey to having holistic habits and wellness. I’ve taken tactile approaches with procedural steps to get people from their start lines to their finish lines in achieving their goals, helping change their mindsets, and watching them overcome the hurdles that once held them from finding their goals. I am honored and humbled to have had a hand in that.
